Construction is a hazardous job, and every day workers risk serious injury or even death on the job site. Using the correct gear is essential to ensuring the safety of your crew. With the proper safety gear you can put your mind at ease knowing that your workers remain safe while on the job. There are many different types of personal protective equipment, or PPE, that can be used.
Some of the most important pieces of safety gear include hard hats, safety glasses, gloves & boots, ear protection, and ANSI/ISEA certified reflective clothing. These key items are essential in providing the protection your workers need to prevent serious injury while on the job. Let’s take a closer look at some of these pieces of equipment.
Hard Hats
Hard Hats should meet the ANSI Z89.1 standard for Type 1, Class E, G & C safety helmets. They are required to be worn by all workers on a construction site and protect the head from overhead hazards, falling objects and debris, and other construction hazards.
Shafer Equipment Company offers hard hats that provide a sleek, cap style shell design that are manufactured from a high-density polyethylene material that’s incredibly lightweight. They feature an eight-point, six-strap nylon suspension that is very comfortable yet provide exceptional impact absorption.

- Independently tested to meet the ANSI Z89.1 standard for Type 1, Class E, G & C safety helmets.
Safety Glasses
Safety glasses should be worn at all times to protect the worker’s eyes from flying dust and debris and other construction site hazards. We carry Luminary Safety Glasses which are one of the lightest and brightest solutions in safety eye wear.
Our safety glasses feature an ultra-lightweight design that make them easy to wear all day, every day. The “fingertip” nose piece reduces slippage so that your safety glasses stay on securely. Luminary Safety Glasses are certified by Underwriters Laboratories to meet ANSI Z87.1+ and CSA Z94.3 standards and meet ballistic impact resistance requirements for eye wear in US Military Performance Specification MIL PRF-32432 (GL).
- Ultra-lightweight design — just four-fifths of an ounce — makes it easy to wear all day, every day.
- Elastic temples help relieve pressure behind the ears and provide superior comfort.
- “Fingertip” nose piece reduces slippage, so glasses stay on securely.
Hearing Protection
Hearing protection is necessary to protect the worker’s ears from loud noises that may cause hearing loss over time. They also protect the ears from cold weather, wind, and other harsh elements that workers must endure while on the job.
Shafer Equipment Company carries GloPlugz Uncorded Earplugs, which are soft, comfortable, and tapered for easy insertion.
Safety Gloves & Boots
Both safety gloves and boots should be worn when handling hazardous materials or working with dangerous equipment. Also the proper boots are necessary to protect the worker’s feet from being injured from falling objects and heavy equipment.
Safety boots should include a steel toe to prevent punctures, impacts, or penetration from falling objects or uneven work spaces. They should also be comfortable and have slip-resistant soles to prevent dangerous falls and injury.
Reflective Clothing
Reflective clothing must be worn by workers to ensure proper visibility to other workers, moving vehicles, and other equipment active on the job site. We carry a variety of reflective clothing including jackets, pants, coveralls, vests, and winter bibs. Let’s take a closer look at some of the gear we have available.
